History of

Triumph has a unique place in the history of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren. In 1954 a young pastor named Joe Rangen was asked to lead a new ministry department, Lutheran Brethren Home Missions. Pastor Rangen agreed under the condition that he would be allowed to plant a church in Fargo/Moorhead.

After a fruitful history of significant World Mission outreach, the Lutheran Brethren planted its first intentional "Home Mission" congregation through the efforts of Pastor Joe and Estelle Rangen in 1954. Triumph has grown with this important understanding that it exists as a mission to the Fargo/Moorhead community.

From 1956-1984 Triumph's building was tucked away in a north Moorhead neighborhood. The congregation grew around an emphasis on clear Bible preaching and joyful music. Perhaps it has been the constant presence of college students and young families, but Triumph has been a place where a comfortable, even casual tone has made it a welcoming place.

In 1984 the congregation moved to its present location in south Moorhead. This move has been affirmed as the outreach to Fargo/Moorhead has steadily grown. The church is in the midst of its fourth building project since 1984 and is served by a multiple staff of pastors and ministry directors.

Triumph reflects its heritage today. There continues to be an emphasis on clear Bible preaching and teaching. The worship life of the church is marked by joyful music that touches hearts and minds. There is an openness that provides a welcoming feeling to those new to the church. Our desire is to bless God by helping people know Jesus and live in the freedom of the gospel.
